CREATION 2006

CREATION 2006, Holy Family's art festival which celebrates the creative within all of us took place during the Merseyfest Week (31st July- 5th August). We continued to attract interest from a number of other local churches including Pioneer People (Thingwall), St Michael & All Angels (Pensby), Christchurch (Barnston) and St Mary's Upton. Eileen Lamberton, left, from Our Lady & St. John submitted a number of works.
Val Marshall submitted four works this year, encompassing a variety of styles and media. Always one to challenge the sensibilities of our more fragile viewers, this year's controversial piece was a wonderfully Rubenesque life drawing featuring a lady of luxuriously generous proportions. (Ooh, fetch me another bar of chocolate!). In terms of her portrait work, Val again chose to paint a local character. If you you live in the general vicinity of Pensby/Heswall, see if you can recognise the model in the painting on the right.

Mairie Gelling, an exhibitor at this year's exhibitionThis year the 'art' remit for the festival took on a much broader interpretation. We had textile work, knitting, marquetry, woodcarving, cross stitch and barge art. Mairie Gelling, seen left, and her artist friends introduced us to the book as an art form. Given the wide range of objets d'art which Mairie and friends submitted, it is hard to think that they can all be categorised under the term 'book'. They certainly provided an absorbing attraction for our visitors and no doubt a great inspiration to budding book artists in our community.

It was wonderful to see new artists taking the plunge to put on public view the fruits of their labours. It was especially good to see works from the CREATE art group which was set up in the wake of last year's exhibition to provide an encouraging environment for artists, both existing and new.

Once again on the Wednesday we had an evening of poetry, music and storytelling, all washed down with wine and nibbles. A most enjoyable time was had by all and will certainly be repeated (possibly before the next CREATION).

A huge thank you to all who participated in any way with CREATION 2006. We already have provisional dates for CREATION 2007 (6th - 11th August 2007) so pencil them into your forward planner and GET CREATIVE!
